Mike Mitchell is excited to release his heartfelt rendition of Dawes’ beloved song “Time Spent in Los Angeles.” What started as a lighthearted challenge has evolved into a powerful tribute—one that Mitchell hopes will inspire generosity and support for those impacted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

“At Folk Alliance in 2018, I connected with the Rauchwerk brothers, also known as The Lords of Lichtenstein. They jokingly dared me to cover a Dawes song, so I learned ‘Time Spent,’” shares Mitchell. “My friend Jody and I recorded it remotely, mostly just for fun. But after recently seeing Dawes perform it at a benefit for L.A. fire victims, I knew it was time to share it.”

As a member of the Appalachian bluegrass community, Mitchell has witnessed firsthand the resilience and generosity that arise in the face of hardship. “Our community has been through a lot this year, and we’ve all been so generous in helping our own,” he adds. “I hope this bluegrass take on a classic folk-rock tune encourages us to extend that same generosity to those who lost everything in the L.A. fires.”

To further support the cause, Mike will be donating all proceeds from this track to MusiCares. Mitchell’s unique interpretation of “Time Spent in Los Angeles” blends soulful storytelling with the rich textures of traditional bluegrass, offering a fresh and moving take on the song. The single is available on all streaming platforms now.
